My Reasons for Blogging - Revisited

I am visiting back my old blog posts in Blogger, particularly the first one which has the list of reasons / purposes for creating my own blog site. Here is the list again:

I ponder again at this list and chuckled to some of those I have written.

The first one is true. I do like to speak my mind though sometimes I do get into trouble for that. Many times I clamp up and stick my thoughts to myself in situations where I feel my opinions would not be heard off in a group of people. These are the times I would instead write up a paragraph that would turn into a full-blown article. And blogging has provided me the means to talk and share the things I (ought) to discuss about for the day.

Second one is also true and related to the first purpose. The digital camera I bought last year has been a very helpful tool in capturing interesting people, places and things (to borrow from Strephen King quote) and post these pictures onto my blog instead of writing about them. Sometimes pictures do tell more stories.

For the third one, I’ve already accomplished moving out of my homeland and working abroad as an OFW. From time to time I would communicate with my family, especially with my mom who would be worried sick about my everyday situation here (I would assure her that there is nothing to worry about since Singapore is quite a safe and secure nation with great amenities).

For the fourth, I’ve already met some new friend bloggers, visited new blogs, and met one of them in person already.

For the fifth, I still want to establish limits on what to record and post in my blog for public reading. Too private and personal matters should not be shouted out in the realm of the Internet. Unless one blogger writes for the thrill of letting out controversial subject matters about his or her life or even the lives of others (and make a total fool of themselves in return).

The sixth reason is basically the drive that started me into blogging. It was around 2001 that I simply wanted to learn about web designing and programming out of work boredom. I researched and thought myself for months. Then I (accidentally) stumbled upon one blog, a Pinoy blog, which is a funny and interesting read. Blogs were unknown for me then but curiosity got the best of me. This led to more blog visits and my interest for blogging increased. And the rest became history for me. I’ll tell more about this in the next installment of posts.

And finally, I want to practice my skills in writing in English. I’m no master and I still need a lot of work to sharpen my English writing skills. Practice, practice, practice.

Will Ms. Fernandez Return?

In the Filipino blogosphere, people are speculating on the return of Malu Fernandez’s controversial column on Monday for the local daily Manila Standard.

Already I am alarmed. I’m confused as to whether the apology made by Malu is really by her (or as many other bloggers stated possibly not her but was perpetuated by another writer or editors/writers in the paper she is working with). Her apology could be a ploy to temporarily pacify the seething anger of the Filipino people, particularly the OFW workers. She may be banking on the fact that Filipinos tend to forget atrocities too easily and after a brief period of time will move on with their normal lives and forget this issue had ever happened.

Forget it Ms. Fernandez. The wounds are still fresh and not completely healed.

Thanks to the internet and through blogging, the (still controversial) issue has not yet died. Thanks for the news from vigilant bloggers, people will anticipate what will happen and show up in Manila Standard. I am one of those in waiting. I’ll not say anything further for now. Let’s wait and see on Monday.

The Fierce Malu Fernandez Article That Launched A Thousand Fiercer Backlashes

Who is this Malu Fernandez that all of a sudden almost the entire Filipino blogosphere has been busy writing about her for the past weeks? I’m not going to join in the fray of bashing too much a “social” writer who thinks highly about herself and starts to dis her countrymen especially the OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers of which I am one of them). Already, other Filipino bloggers had done great jobs in retaliating, dismissing, and voicing out their disagreement with Ms. Fernandez’s controversial article.

I’ve decided long ago that this new version of my blog, as much as possible, will try to avoid posting negative writings like rants, complaints, or insults. Only this time I have to make an exception because Ms. Fernandez’s article was not funny (at all), especially her utter contempt to OFWs from Dubai who happen to fly with her on an economy flight. She finds it witty to downgrade her fellowmen because of the behaviors she finds irritating and far from her so-called “cultured world”. You just find it odd really why she insisted in getting on that flight if she feels nothing but remorse to OFWs. Note to Ms. Fernandez, many of my relatives work as OFWs in Dubai. What if one of them was personally insulted by you?

If you, Ms. Fernandez, ever happen to be on the same flight as mine, please, stay away from me before I could smell your pricey Jo Malone (it’s only a fragrance madam that once it evaporates, nothing’s left but stinking skin).

By the way, I’m not going to link nor show the article in this post (nor anywhere in this blog). I don’t want to have any part nor trace of her acerbic wit (she claims to have one, if there is one). Or was it acerbic twit?

For those who continue to blog about Ms. Fernandez, let’s try to avoid calling her names that define her already obvious obtuse structure (AKA fat, fatso, pig, or anything porcine). I know, it’s but human nature to hurl invectives out of anger. I only find this as an immature act that any child can do to retaliate (uncreative), so being adults we can do better by writing about her wit and stating why it’s not remarkable at all. For those who are (still) kids at heart then I can’t stop you at all from calling her whatever you want to call her.

Here are my final words. For my fellow OFWs, let us not go down to her level. Rather let her try to climb up to our status of being modern heroes of our country. Let’s see if she could really climb that far.

Mabuhay tayong lahat mga OFWs!
