Banda Fantastica 2: A Success
A busy and hectic week led to some intoxicating fun of good rock music and drinks at last night’s very successful Banda Fantastica! 2 band concert that featured more than 10 Pinoy indie bands here in Singapore. More on these and pictures will be posted in the next few days.
Meanwhile, the CD album design I have created was well-received (thank you and thank God). I could’ve not accomplished this and on time (a very tight schedule really) without the help of good friend Ivan of Philmusicsg. Thanks Ivan for constant editing of what I’ve sweated and stayed late during certain nights. Hehe. Already I’m feeling the grind and agony of being a freelancer which I only read from some informative sites like Freelanceswitch. The album cover is shown below.

Above is what I call an “essay” page, part of the inlay pages inserted inside music CDs where anything can be added like graphics, photographs, personal write-ups by the musicians, credits, lyrics and so on. The essay shown above has the following text (for those who could not see the image properly):
We are not professional musicians.
We have daytime jobs.
Some of us are married.
And some have been blessed with children.
But most are still in search of their lifetime partner.
We have our own set of responsibilities and obligations to fulfill,
not to mention a wardrobe to beat.
What we don’t have enough is time.
A man’s soul constantly at work each and every day can barely be put to rest.
Music is the only language that keeps these souls from being laid to waste.
Tonight as you see these words, we shall be playing before you once again.
It will be done neither for money nor fame, but for a greater cause -
however you define this cause to be. Music is sustenance and a cradle.
And so you know, it is YOU who rock this cradle.
Poetic. Indeed.
Above is the back cover, displaying the list of songs available in the CD. The first album has seven songs. Now this CD has doubled that number to 14 songs all in all (two of which have no lyrics at all, yet one of them is one of my favorites - “Funkd Up!”).

Designing The Album CD
The past weekend was already a hectic period as I, along with my friend and officemate, joined forces in completing the product design of the Banda Fantastica! 2 CD design along with the casing and lyrics/credits sheet. I accepted their offer to do the CD design in a very tight schedule (yes, over the weekends). Given only some rough ideas verbally, plus all the texts to be printed in the designs, I toiled through long hours just to perfect the look and feel of the entire album’s design. I was able to wrap things up at around half past midnight (that would be 12:30AM this day).
As a teaser, here’s the color combination of the CD’s design that I used. There’s lots of browns, and two shades of blue (a light baby blue and slightly dark blue) used in the design.
I know I’ve seen this color combination somewhere. Most likely I’ve fancied this one from one of the popular palettes in Colourlovers, one of my favorite websites on color designing. I simply forgot the name of the palette. Subconsciously, I could have blended this color combination out of what I could remember from the palette in that website.
I used the very handy Photoshop poloroid 600 instant film and Lomo effect actions from Addicted to Design for most of the images utilized in the CD design. With these two actions combined, I could create appealing polaroid like pictures with that distinct Lomo toning and saturation.
Here is a sample of a picture I took during the first Banda Fantastica! concert and album launching at Bar None, Orchard Road. The second picture is the result after applying the polaroid action (one click action which has many steps, some need input from the photoshop user).

Here is the next sample of the Lomo effect photoshop action applied to another picture. I may not have the Lomo camera to get this type of photograph but with this action I’m able to transform pictures into photographs as if taken by a Lomo camera.

I’ll post soon the entire CD design once I have seen the final product from the guys responsible for the Banda Fantastica! 2 concert gig on October 20. Again, the concert will be held at Le Baroque Bar, Chijmes (pronounced as “chimes”), nearest to City Hall MRT station. I know that the design is now under production (in the factory) so I’m already excited of the outputs.

Banda Fantastica 2: Poster and Advertisement
Here’s the poster (possibly preliminary as I need to show first to my friend and co-worker) I did almost overnight for the upcoming Banda Fantastica 2 event this October 20.
The way I designed this poster is very different from the grungy style I did for the first poster for Banda Fantastica 1.
I support the Filipino indie bands here in Singapore and hopefully other fellow Pinoys, locals, and even tourists here in SG will come in this event and enjoy a night of good fun listening to rock and roll music both international ala Filipino style.

According to my friend, additional special guest will be added in the upcoming band concert gig - Robert Sunga of Live the Dream (Singapore TV singing talent show) fame will do his fasetto trick singing to the delight of his fans. Don’t miss this one guys and gals!
Though he’s eliminated from the show, to us Pinoys he’s the no. 1 among the contestants and does some mean singing prowess during the contest. Saludo kami sa iyo, Robert!
